ELVIS ON TOUR/IN CONCERT jackets

ELVIS ON TOUR/IN CONCERT jackets, all 4 jackets are original Elvis summer and Winter tour jackets, the Elvis on Tour Jackets were Prototypes and my not have been used very long, thats why you dont see them in any history books on Elvis,i got these from a good source that theses are Original Tour Jackets,,,,
The Summer Jackets were only made by APOLLO BY HOLLOWAY,and winter jackets by BUTWIN jackets only, later summer jackets were produced after elvis passed away in 1977 were made by a subsiderary company of HOLLOWAY JACKETS,only says HOLLOWAY,,,,(see the APOLLO BY HOLLOWAY TAG),,,,I think HOLLOWAY JACKETS DID THE 1977 ELVIS IN CONCERT JACKETS for The ELVIS 1977 Summer Tour that NEVER HAPPENED,i think i have 2 of the jackets in my collection,(still researching theses jackets)the only difference is the style of the embroidery of the patches, made by HOLLOWAY only,,,

  5. I have 3 ELVIS ON TOUR jackets. I am curious as to what era they are. I am positive they are repros because none of them have the "holloway" label.
I have a red and also a black nylon jacket with the "humes" label (spelled like his high school)

My other one is black, nylon and has an MTA Sports Pro label inside of it.

    Thanks for your help!

  6. all your jackets are FAN jackets from the past 10 years ,,,, the older ones AFTER elvis passed away were made by Howe jackets of Memphis 1978 era and just "Holloway" alone,, with a mass produced Patches,,,, The Real Summer Jackets Had Zippers and not buttons, and made by "APOLLO BY HOLLOWAY"

  11. Hi Davek, as you know they appear to be almost non existant now so very happy that I could even get this one, even if its not an original. Rare to get this on the bottom of the world. My one belonged to some music exec.

  14. Hi Davek,
Apart from the red/black varsity jackets and the red satin ones, whats your opinion on those other ones such as black, white. Were the originals made in those colors?

    ReplyDelete
  15. the black one and the white ones ,,,,I stay away from buying them, they have the same inferior patches that the fakes have,,, you can see the difference if you put the real patches and newer fake patches togeather side by side,,,, they look different,,,

  16. I've seen some jackets (red Summer types) that don't actually have collars, just round necks......any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Just a follow up to my previous, theres this guy on EBay selling cheap nylon red/white jackets without the TCB logo and best part is they are made in Vietnam. He wants about $160 U.S for something thats worth around $20....if that. He claims they are genuine 1970's.....people be warned.

  19. Davek,
I have a jacket that has red buttons and the label says Howe Athletic Apparel Memphis Tennesse. The patch says Elvis in Concert with the TCB on the left sleeve. Can you give me more information on it.
    Thank You

  20. your jacket is a fan or tribute jacket,, they sold them at the elvis always convention in 1978,,,originals have zippers,, and your jacket has inferior patches

    ReplyDelete
  21. Davek,
My father has a black jacket with the patch on the right breast and the TCB on the right sleeve in gold, his jacket is also a Howe jacket. It was given to him from a Roadie during an event. and info on the black jacket? I believe his has buttons and not a zipper. Thanks!

  22. the black jackets were 1978 copies

  23. Read your comments re: inferior patches and totally agree. The jackets with the "Elvis Presley" label inside the collar are worst of the worst, very fuzzy! I think they were sold at Graceland, not sure though. If so then they have no excuse for such shitty patches. Theres a few re-productions going on EBay which are excellent quality although the sizes differ from the original. Regards.

    ReplyDelete
  24. the EP label was sold at graceland, they didn't want to make the exact copy of original jackets so people would sell the copies as real tour jackets thus getting big monies for it,,,

    ReplyDelete
  25. As I guessed. Dunno how many they sold as the patch is total crap. Bet they wanted big $$$$ also. I did a search and seems they don't sell them anymore.

  29. Ebay has a red/black leather "Elvis Presley" label Winter jacket for sale. It looks OK until you study the ELVIS IN CONCERT logo on the chest which is very fuzzy and poor quality. Not worth the asking price.

  41. Hi, any update on the holloway label jackets? Did you find out if these were used for the fall tour that never happened? I hear conflicting reports about this. Surely most of these were made to accomodate fans, but I have seen a coa by Tom Hulett who states he had 60 made for the fall tour of 1977. That is the holloway jackets, not the apollo by Holloway.

    ReplyDelete
  42. i have a 1977 tour jacket that i bought from Dick Clarks estate, they said it was from the last elvis tour that never happened, yes its a Holloway zipper jacket, the only difference was the slight design change in the 2 patches,,,so yes Holloway jackets were used,,,i have a winter and summer elvis jackets with a patch that says Elvis on tour and not Elvis in Concert,,,,prototypes, from tom Hulett

    1. Thanks for your reply. Still no proof: Dick Clark could have received it as a souvenir jacket. The Holloway jacket I am referring to with the Tom Hulett LOA was sold at the last Juliens Auction in LA for about 900 USD. I am not convinced if this was authentic. I did notice one number on the label was dfferent than the other labels I have seen from the Holloway jackets, but since then I have seen that additional number as well on some of these souvenir jackets. So I would at least assume these were made in 2 badges. apart from this addiotnal number the labels are the same. The Apollo by Holloway also come with 2 variation of the label. Altough very similar, I have seen 2 versions (you can see this if you google it). I would assume therefore these were made in 2 badges as well. I believe both are genuine. Regarding the Buttwin winterjackets: I know they are genuine, but I have yet to see a picture of someone wearing it before 8/16/1977. There is one picture/video of Vernon Presley being interviewed on a couch for the Elvis in Concert special in June 1977. Behind him is what appears to be a Winterjacket, but the quality is just too poor to judge for sure. I read that Elvis gave these Winterjackets first of all to his flighcrew (have 2 confirmed stories about that). Since there are not much pictures of his flightcrew this would make sense. On the other hand: Jerry Scheff had a winterjacket that he offered for sale at auction.

  45. btw, when you google Apollo by holloway, the photos are mine that your looking at,,,

    ReplyDelete
  46. I found the pictures of labels from Jackets that were owned by Ginger Alden, Larry Strickland, Dean Nichopolous and Joe Esposito. 2 have a slightly different Apollo by Holloway label.
You are right to assume it would be strange to frame a jacket if it would not be a genuine one, but Dick Clark could have received it from someone who told him it was a genuine jacket.

    ReplyDelete
  47. i go it at Gurnseys Auctions in New York years ago,,,in 1977 Holloway jackets dropped the Apollo by Holloway tag,,,went with only Holloway

  50. Hi Davek. What do you know about the '80s/90s Holloway red varsity/letterman wool jacket with "Elvis & Amdahl" and TCB with lightning bolt on the front left chest? Amdahl could also be Amdahi, Arndahl, Arnhahi -- the photos and stitching are difficult to decipher. Thanks!

  58. Hi Davek
I've just stumbled across you blogspot. I'm very interested to know if the jacket I own is genuine. It has a HOWE label. EP in concert badge front left breast. TCB badge to the left arm and a black zipper. With a red faux fur lining. Can you enlighten me anymore . I'm guessing as it doesn't say Apollo or Holloway it would be circa 1978 post Elvis passing. Thanks in advance.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Your APOLLO By HOLLOWAY Jacket that has "Joe Esposito's" name on the tag isn't legit!! Yes…it does say "APOLLO By HOLLOWAY" but Apollow did indeed sell a plain red jacket off the rack that was a zip up and had the tag such as yours. There were left over patches of "Elvis In Concert" and the "TCB" patch. A couple of smart people bought these off the rack Apollow jackets and sewed the patches onto those jackets. The Apollow By Holloway Elvis In Concert jackets that were used on the last Elvis tour in June of 1977 had a tag that was just a wee bit different. As well as a few other little things of which I won't mention here.
